Tob-e “登日 ( rising day )” – Educator, Technologist, and Post-AI Learning Architect

Thabelo Mancama (nickname : Tob-e ) is an educator and technologist working at the intersection of learning, systems design, and post-AI human development. With over 20 years of experience across South Africa, Switzerland, the UK, and most recently Japan, he helps organizations and cities build future-proof learning systems grounded in real human needs.

A Global Career Rooted in Systems and Story

Toby began his professional life in hospitality, graduating with honors from IHTTI in Switzerland and studying at the University of Buckingham in the UK. He soon joined Sun International in South Africa as one of the company’s first CRM Managers, responsible for customer strategy across high-volume operations. There, he oversaw over ¥30 million in marketing spend and contributed to a ¥600 million+ group-wide CRM transformation project  an experience that shaped his understanding of data, people, and behavior at scale.

He went on to found a South African company focused on eventing and conferencing before relocating to Japan in pursuit of deeper, more meaningful work in education and community building. The gaming industry made one thing painfully clear: when human values are decoupled from profit, the damage cuts right through the fabric of society. This sparked a massive shift in thinking which in turn opened a new path.

A Human-Centered Approach to Education and Technology

For over 13 years, Toby has worked inside Japan’s public education system, collaborating with schools across eastern Shizuoka. Immersed in a culture where education is both respected and deeply structured, he came to a realization: the future of learning isn’t curriculum based, it is a social phenomenon built around human connection.

That belief shaped the creation of two platforms:

CCEF3:
An education platform that uses immutable records to notarize knowledge, democratizing learning and empowering students with verified, immutable evidence of growth and ability.

GYOUJI:
A highly extensible system that allows individuals and institutions to create meaningful, scalable learning experiences powered by AI, but driven by human intention.

Drawing on his extensive experience training Japanese teachers for almost 10 years, Toby developed a new, interactive approach to inspire delegates during sessions. Rather than speaking to delegates, he works with them to unlock the potential they already possess. This method has been tried and tested over many years and maximizes the value that participants gain from his workshops and presentations.

Toby’s platforms are now being piloted in partnership with the City of Izu, helping children safely engage with global ideas and communities. His work supports a broader vision: empowering people to “learn by doing” and helping families reclaim time through better design, automation, and trust.

A Voice of Experience in a Post-AI World

Raised in a multilingual home in Zimbabwe, Toby didn’t even realize different languages existed until he was ten a moment that deeply shaped his lifelong commitment to language, empathy, and access. He brings a rare blend of technical acumen and cultural sensitivity, offering both the code and the context to shape AI-era learning.

His session speak to city planners, school leaders, policymakers, and business decision-makers where anyone looking to:

    • Reimagine learning in a post-AI society
    • Build adaptive organizations and communities
    • Design education systems rooted in experience, not theory
    • Humanize technology without dumbing it down

Those who join his sessions leave not only with powerful memories, but with clear, actionable insights they can immediately apply within their own organizations.
